Portrait of Labrador Retriever
Watercolor on cold press paper
Before introducing a dog into her new home, prepare the area to make it as stress-free as possible. Gather the supplies your dog will need (leash, food, bed, identification tag, and the like) so that you have everything for your dog’s comfort on hand.
Dog-proof you home by checking and repairing any damaged gates, doors, screens or fences. Put any poisons or chemicals well out of reach, or better yet, lock up the containers in a secure cabinet. Remember that a dog can reach pretty high by standing on her hind legs and leaning against the wall.
Try to introduce you dog into her new home during a time that you or a family member can be there. Not only will companionship make it easier on your dog, but if some unexpected needs arise, someone will be on hand to help the dog.
